How Can a Super Busy Mom-To-Be Know Everything About How To Have a Fit
and Healthy Pregnancy?
The amount of information out there is overwhelming.
Time and energy are scarce.
And then there's morning sickness, fatigue, and no doubt a bit of anxiety
about this journey ahead of you.
Does any of this sound familiar?
My name is Laura Flynn and this is what was going through my head in
the winter of 2005 when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, Helena.
I remember the moment my frame of mind shifted from wanting so badly to
be pregnant to the combination of excitement and terror
of actually being pregnant. There's so much to do, so many things
to get ready, so much to learn...
Where do you begin?
So much emphasis seems to be placed on getting the nursery ready, picking
a pediatrician, planning a baby shower, buying maternity clothes and taking
baby care classes, that taking care of yourself and the life growing inside
you before it's born is often overlooked.
Even though I have been a dietician for over 10 years, I felt lost. I
was skeptical about main stream nutrition and frustrated with all the
controversy surrounding more alternative options. I became the most important
client I'd ever had. So many questions I had were unanswered:
- Which foods are really the best for me and my baby?
- What kinds of fats, proteins and carbohydrates provide the best nutrients
for my developing baby?
- How do I fit taking care of myself into my already busy life?
And then there's the question of exercise during pregnancy!
- Can I exercise while I'm pregnant?
- What exercises are best during pregnancy and which ones should I
avoid?
- How do I make sure I'm not gaining too much weight?
- Can I get my pre-preg body back...or better?
I
teamed up with my long time friend Michelle Ladd, an exercise physiologist,
and began to formulate a plan. After careful research, and some trial
and error, we finally figured out how to incorporate
a great diet and exercise program into a modern woman's busy lifestyle
for a happy healthy baby, and a post - bump body that will still turn
heads! ;)
